Why Zuckerberg’s Metaverse Will Touch Everyone

We are impressed with Mark Zuckerberg’s presentation of the metaverse. Yesterday we provided comments to the press. Today we want to share more about our vision with Medium readers.

The metaverse — a new way to get superpowers

- Generally speaking, there is nothing new in the idea of metaworld: it has been floating around for a long time and many companies and startups are already working on its realization, — says Andrey Komissarov, Founder & CTO of DEVAR. — Globally, people always aspire to some improvements, to superpowers: to fly faster (planes), to hear and see better (special devices), to recover faster, and to improve the quality of life (medical drugs).

The metawerse (in particular, augmented and virtual reality) is a new way of self-improvement and gaining superpowers. It allows us to move anywhere in space with a digital copy of our bodies. Or gives us X-ray vision, where with AR glasses we can see through objects, through buildings.

The urge to improve ourselves is one of the inevitable things in human life. And the metaverse is one route: through science and technology.

There is no other way, we are definitely going in the direction of creating a metaverse.

Actually, the concept of bringing the Internet into the real world already has its own term — Phygital. And there is an intersection of many technologies, not just the ones that Mark Zuckerberg talked about yesterday.

All physical objects in the future will become Phygital, i.e. based on a set of breakthrough technologies (AR, IoT, M2M, etc.), and the online environment (social networks, e-commerce, etc.) will finally merge with physical objects, becoming their integral part.

The real and digital worlds will definitely merge. But how soon?

Revolution does not happen overnight

The speed of mass diffusion may be limited by certain factors. For example, the quality of the devices. FB is now releasing generation after generation of new VR/AR (Oculus) glasses. We know that both Apple and Snapchat are creating AR glasses. There is no doubt that a convenient mass-market device will hit the market in the foreseeable future and will be a driver of growth in the consumption of metaverse content.

It is important to note that the speed at which the real and digital worlds are coming together is increasing. If 5 years ago AR technology was only talked about in narrow circles, today it is becoming one of the foundations of the new Phygital economy. Earlier the most striking example was Pokemon Go, today AR/VR technologies are used in business, communications, creating new products, marketing, education, and many other things that surround us every day. The revolution does not happen overnight. The merging of the real and digital worlds is already underway. And we’re excited about how Facebook (and now Meta) will add speed and popularity to it for the mass consumer.

How technology can help everyone go to space

We were particularly excited about the AR and space examples yesterday. So, we really want to share a fun video with you. In fact, we foresaw this for Zuckerberg’s presentation years ago… just kidding! Since 2015, we’ve been talking about completely changing the world around us using XR technology. Space is one of the most popular topics when you can dive into a new layer of the world through AR.

Metaverse, Phygital are all new ways of communicating with the world. The Internet is moving into the real world, breaking the autonomy of physical things. They are acquiring new properties and values, changing our patterns of behavior and the way we consume. It’s great that Facebook has also made a big announcement about it.

And while we all are waiting for the AR glasses (by the way, who do you expect to deliver it most — Apple, Snap, or now FB?), we can dive into the world of new universes using ordinary smartphones, just like millions of users do with DEVAR phygital products!
